LoRa
Live log of LoRa packets arriving on the WIO-E5 module, with a text or raw frame you can type and transmit.
The screen
A four-line header sits above a scrolling log that fills the rest of the screen, oldest at the top and newest at the bottom.
The header is read back from the modem itself, not from a settings menu, and is repainted only when the modem's configuration actually changes:
- Top left the screen's name, top right the region the frequency falls in - US915, EU868, 433, CN470, or
?for a frequency outside all four - Frequency in MHz, transmit power in dBm, and preamble length (
Pre) - Spreading factor, bandwidth in kHz, and coding rate as 4/N
- Sync word in hex, and the Meshtastic preset that spreading factor and bandwidth add up to - ShortTurbo, ShortFast, ShortSlow, MediumFast, MediumSlow, LongFast, LongMod, LongSlow, or Custom if the pair matches no preset
The sync word matters: two radios only hear each other if their sync words match, so a header showing an unexpected value is the first thing to check when nothing is arriving.
The sync word is the last argument of the console Configure command, along with preamble length; frequency, spreading factor, bandwidth, coding rate and power are the ones before it. None of them are changeable from this panel. Leave the last two arguments off and the sync word becomes 0x12, the value most LoRa equipment listens on; 0x2B is what a stock Meshtastic device uses. Testing without putting traffic on a real mesh means moving off the mesh sync word, the region's default channel, or both.

Gray is unbound on this screen and draws no label at all. HOME leaves the screen from here, as it does everywhere else in the menu.
Power
The LoRa module sits on power zone 4, Sub-GHz, shared with the CC1101 radios. Opening this screen switches that zone on if it was off, without asking, and holds it for as long as the screen stays open; the modem needs a moment on the rail before it answers. Zone 4 is on by default and is also switched from Power Devices.
Reading the log
Each received packet is one line: RX <rssi>dBm: followed by the
packet's bytes in hex, with no separators. Signal strength is in tenths
of a dBm and is normally negative. Only the first 64 bytes of a packet
are kept, and the log itself cuts a line at 128 characters, so a long
packet is shown truncated rather than wrapped.
Sending echoes into the same log in red - TX: and the text in message
mode, > and exactly what you typed in raw mode. A mode change writes a
-- MESSAGE mode -- or -- RAW-FRAME mode -- marker in purple, so the
log records where each change happened.
Packets are only logged while this screen is on the display. Anything
that arrives while it is closed is not kept, and opening the screen
starts from an empty log with a Listening for LoRa packets... line.
Blue puts that line back.
Sending
Green opens a text entry. The on-screen keyboard is up only while the entry is open, so the coloured buttons work normally the rest of the time; leaving the entry empty sends nothing.
In MESSAGE mode what you type is transmitted as-is, byte for byte, with no header or framing added.
In RAW-FRAME mode the text is read as hex: the first value is the command
byte and every space-separated value after it is payload. 02 48 69
sends command 0x02 with the two payload bytes 0x48 0x69. This is the
module's own frame format and bypasses the message path entirely, so a
mistyped command byte reaches the modem exactly as written.
What persists
Nothing on this screen is saved. Mode resets to MESSAGE the next time the firmware starts, and the frequency, spreading factor, power and sync word in the header are the modem's live configuration, set elsewhere rather than from here.
